Infrastructure

A thoroughly thought-out infrastructure is one of the cornerstones for Gorky Gorod. The base concept of the city's plan was to have all infrastructural objects – shops, restaurants, and entertainment centers – within walking distance of each other. The architects designing Gorky Gorod studied the best of European resorts in order to recreate their lively apres-ski atmosphere and the convenient compactness with which their districts are planned.

The city's central square will become the venue for open-air celebrations by day and the center of the city's club life by night. The square will have a Greek style amphitheater and the Promenade, which will become the city's main shopping street. A place to take a walk and to take in the scenery, relax with a cup of coffee in one of the many cafes and restaurants, or shop at local boutiques. Blocks of apartment buildings will be built along the perimeter of the resort's lower part. The block parallel to the Promenade, west of the Main Square, will be taken up by trade and entertainment centers: movie theaters and stores selling sports equipment, books, music and souvenirs. Tourists and residents who prefer natural food will find all they need at the open-air marketplace offering local dainties and the freshest of homemade and hand-picked foods Krasnaya Polyana is famous for, such as honey, nuts, berries, and homemade jams. A spa complex using local mineral springs will become the resort's outstanding feature, maintaining Sochi's reputation as a national wide health resort. In addition, Gorky Gorod will have its own waterpark, kindergarten, outdoor gym, healthcare facilities, and even a little chapel on the shore of the Mzymta.

The banks of the river are perfect for walks, roller skating, and cycling. The list of the city's culture and education faculties includes a library, and Olympic Hall of Fame, and a congress center which during the Games will serve as the media center for the Games' mountain sports cluster. A large conference hall/hotel will be constructed on the congress center's grounds.

Car traffic will be limited within the city. City 540 will have several large underground parking lots. The largest of them will be located directly under the town's main square and have an exit to the main cableway station. The cable tram will take tourists and residents to the city's upper part located at 960 meters above sea level.

The upper and lower parts of the resort will be also connected by road, running along picturesque mountain landscapes. A stable and horse riding school will be placed at the entrance to City 960, the top part of the resort. The center of City 960 will be packed with low-rise buildings that will house luxurious hotels with penthouses, chic boutiques, spas, and exclusive restaurants. Some of the mid-range and top-class hotels ran by international hotel networks will have their own ski-in/ski-out access to the ski trails. Visitors willing to buy property will be able to choose between apartment houses, townhouses, traditional chalets, and elegant villas.
