Krasnaya Polyana

Krasnaya Polyana’s unique microclimate is an unusual blend of mountain and sea climates that allows tourists to engage in almost any kind of outdoor activities. This part of Russia, covered in dense forests, carved through with picturesque gorges and fast mountain rivers, is perfect for ecotourism. The Mzymta River’s valley near Krasnaya Polyana forms a unique basin, surrounded by high mountains and cut off from the north and northeast by the Caucasian mountain range and one of its branches, the Achishkho. The mountains of the Caucasian range and the Achishkho are over 3,000 meters high. On the southern and southeastern side the basin is circumscribed by the Aigba mountain range that runs parallel to the Mzymta river. The southwestern part of the basin borders on the deep riverbed. The secluded valley gets almost no wind which makes the air in it less humid than that of the shore regions, creating a microclimate that is pleasant, soft and quite warm. The average temperature level in Krasnaya Polyana is roughly the same as that of Central Europe’s Alpine resorts. At the same time, Krasnaya Polyana is less than an hour’s drive away from the seaside. Passenger trains will start running from the village to the beaches and the Sochi airport in 2013. Regular flights between Sochi and Moscow as well as other major cities in Russia, Europe, and Asia make Krasnaya Polyana one of the most convenient Russian resorts from the point of view of logistics.
